The answer is No. Indian nationals travelling to Bhutan do not require a visa to travel to Bhutan. However, you have to carry some documents with you for gaining entry into Bhutan. The documents are necessary to obtain an “Entry Permit” from the Bhutanese Immigration Office. The documents that you should carry are listed below:
- A copy of your Passport/ Voter ID Card issued by the Government of India.
- Passport-sized colored photographs
- The details of the hotel where you are staying along with its address.
- For children below 18 years, a Birth Certificate along with a valid school ID card.
The official currency of Bhutan is Ngultrum. However, you can use Indian currency in Bhutan for the smaller transaction. The higher denomination notes of INR 500 or INR 2000 are not accepted. Therefore, it is advisable to exchange your currency before you start your Bhutan tour. Bhutan is a cash-based economy. Though you can use Credit Cards in luxury hotels or fine dining restaurants, the local shops do not accept cards. Therefore, it is advisable to take cash with you.
The best time to visit Bhutan is from September to November. With beautiful blue sky and dry and pleasant weather and with colorful festivals lined up, Bhutan will leave a magical impression on you.
Bhutan is a very safe country. Even if you are a solo female traveler, you should not worry. Crime is very uncommon in Bhutan, even cases of petty theft are uncommon. The people of Bhutan are kind-hearted, warm, and friendly.
